Kona Brewing's Castaway IPA Debuts On The Mainland

Kona's longtime Hawaiian favorite makes its way ashore April 2014

Kailua-Kona, Big Island of Hawaii…Kona Brewing Company has announced that Castaway IPA, a longtime local favorite at Hawaii pubs and restaurants, will be coming ashore to the U.S. mainland beginning April 14, 2014. The Hawaiian-style IPA will be available in 12oz bottles and on draught in major Kona markets across the U.S.
Castaway IPA pours copper-colored with touches of tropical mango and passion fruit and bold, citrusy hops. It’s balanced by rich caramel malts and has a clean, crisp finish. This new Hawaiian-style IPA will join year-round Kona favorites Longboard Island Lager, Big Wave Golden Ale, and Fire Rock Pale Ale.
Said Kona Brewmaster Billy Smith: “IPAs are one of the fastest-growing segments in today’s craft beer industry, and we think mainland craft beer lovers will appreciate how distinctive Castaway is from many current IPA offerings. The citrus, tropical and mango influences combine with what you’d expect from a typical IPA to create a drinking experience that takes you back to the islands.

Kona To Release Seasonal Pipeline Porter for 7th Year

Kailua-Kona, Big Island of Hawaii Kona Brewing Company’s Pipeline Porter is returning to the mainland for its seventh year as part of Kona’s Aloha Series. This rich porter is brewed with freshly roasted Kona coffee from the Cornwell Estate Coffee plantation, Kona Coast neighbors of the Kona Brewery.

Inspired by Oahu surf spot Banzai Pipeline, Pipeline Porter will be firing onto grocer’s shelves and on draught throughout the US mainland and Hawaii mid-September through December 2012. Pipeline Porter pairs well with winter favorites such as hearty soups and stews, roast beef sandwiches, pot roast and mashed potatoes.

“This is our longest running Aloha Series seasonal, and with its growth over the past two years it is one of our most successful in the Kona portfolio,” said Kona Brewing Company president Mattson Davis. “Pipeline Porter is popular because Kona coffee beans are among the best in the world, and the 100% Kona coffee we add rounds out the porter’s flavor. It’s also perfect for chasing away winter doldrums and makes a great finish with rich vanilla bean ice cream added to it for a creamy dessert float.”

Served year-round in Hawaii, Pipeline Porter has 5.4% ABV and an IBU of 30. You can find where Pipeline Porter is sold in stores and on draught with Kona Brewing’s online beerfinder and app available on iTunes.

Kona Brewing's Big Wave To Hit The Mainland In August

Kailua-Kona, Big Island of Hawaii - A longtime staple in Hawaii will soon make its way ashore, courtesy of Hawaii-born Kona Brewing Company. Big Wave Golden Ale will join Kona’s portfolio on the mainland that includes flagship Longboard Island Lager, Fire Rock Pale Ale and the trio of Aloha Series seasonals available at select times during the year. Brewed with tropical ingredients, the Aloha Series is comprised of Pipeline Porter, Koko Brown Ale and Wailua Wheat. Like Longboard, Big Wave Golden Ale will be a year-round offering starting August 13, 2012, and will be available in 6-pack bottles in all 30 of Kona’s mainland markets.
Inspired by the huge waves that pound the gold sand beaches of Makaha and Waimea Bay on Oahu, Big Wave Golden Ale is well-loved among locals and visitors to Hawaii, who until now have had to go without upon their return to the mainland. This will be the company’s first new mainland beer since Koko Brown Ale hit in January 2011.

Kona Brewing president Mattson Davis said, “Big Wave Golden Ale is one of our original beers, first brewed at our Kailua-Kona home brewery in the mid 90’s. Like Longboard, it’s a great session beer with a bright quenching finish, and perfect for kicking back and talking story at sunset. For the tens of thousands of mainland craft beer lovers who have requested it, their day has come!”
Draught will be limited to California and Florida for Big Wave in 2012, with the other mainland markets receiving draught in early 2013. The beer will also be poured at the Doheny Surf Festival in Dana Point, CA August 11-12 and the Liquid Aloha Festival in San Diego September 1, 2012. It will also be available on draught at the Oregon Brewers Festival (OBF) July 26-29 and Florida’s Key West Brewfest August 30-September 3.
