Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale

Indian Brown Ale is "a cross between a Scotch Ale, an India Pale Ale, and an American Brown". The beer checks in at 7.2% ABV, and 50 IBUs.

poured a dark brown, blackish color with a thumb width tan head. The nose had a lot of dark malts, and aromas of coffee and chocolate. The body is big, very malty, with a lot of sweetness and a lots of chocolate. As the malt dries out, the hops start to take over leading to a pretty dry finish.
Overall, this is a rich, complex beer. While the beer is quite smooth it is clearly a sipping beer. It may pair well with plenty of courses but it to me it is a true dessert beer. Another great brew from Dogfish.

Dogfish Head Midas Touch

Dogfish Head's Midas Touch was created from "an ancient Turkish recipe using the original ingredients from the 2700 year old drinking vessels discovered in the tomb of King Midas".

Midas Touch poured a clear, orange color with a huge off-white head. The aroma is sweet with malty undertones. The body is smooth, full-bodied and has some notes of sweet fruit. The finish is mild and leaves a light tangyness.

Overall, this is a really nice beer. The rich body is deep and complex and the sweetness really works well. This "beer" did not need a huge finish and Dogfish did a nice job of doing just enough on the finish to complment the beer.

The sweetness, texture and lightly noticeable alcohol in this beer reminds me more of a port rather than beer, wine or mead. I would pair this with a dessert if I had to choose a course but I rather have Midas Touch by itself to appreciate the different flavors.

Dogfish Head Chicory Stout

Dogfish's Chicory stout is a seasonal stout that is brewed with roasted chicory and organic Mexican coffee. The beer is a mild 5.2% with only 21 IBU's.
Chicory Stout poured a dark brown, blackish color with a thumb width, tan head. The nose has a huge amount of robust coffee, and a light malt aroma underneath. The body is smooth, with dark roasted malt, more coffee, and some hops underneath. The finish is dry and lingers for a bit with a slight bitterness.

Overall, this is a decent beer. Dogfish's Chicory is a solid stout that is big on coffee in both the aroma and body. The fairly mild ABV allows for a few to be had in one session and the ideal food pairing would smoked or BBQ'd meats followed by some dark chocolate.

Dogfish Head Burton Baton

Burton Baton is "a blend of oak-aged English strong ale and our 90 Minute I.P.A.".

Burton Baton poured a hazy, dark amber color with a frothy, finger width tan head. The nose had a nice balance of malt, hops and sweetness. The body has a substantial amount of malt up front to balance out the big hops that come in on the finish. The finish is hoppy with a lingering dryness.

Overall, this is an amazing blended brew. The big 10% ABV is hidden well and the beer itself is extremely well balanced. The body is deep and smooth with a deep flavor profile. This would pair incredibly well with an Indian, Mexican or Thai dishes.

Dogfish Head Immort Ale

My last visit to Aroma Thyme Bistro resulted in the tasting of two Dogfish beers. Dogfish Head is one of head chef/owner Marcus Guiliano's all-time favorite breweries, so it is no surprise that he is now stocking 15+ of Dogfish's offerings. The first beer tasted was Dogfish Head's Immort Ale.
Immort Ale is "Brewed with peat-smoked barley, Immort is brewed with organic juniper berries, vanilla & maple syrup. It's aged on oak and fermented with a blend of English & Belgian yeasts".
Immort poured a light brown color with a thin tan head. The nose was malty, with a big aroma of sweetness and vanilla. The body is rich and sweet with a big malt profile. The finish is short with a lingering dryness as a result of all of the malt sugar.
Overall, this is a great brew. The complex body is deep with plenty of flavor. The 11% ABV is noticeable in the body but is not overwhelming.
This beer would pair extremely well with any rich cheeses, chocolate fudge, and a nice braised lamb shank.
