Flying Dog Raging Bitch

Raging Bitch was brewed by Flying Dog to celebrate their 20th anniversary. Flying Dog was brewed as an American I.P.A. with Belgian yeast. This beer checks in at a whopping 8.3% ABV, and 60 IBU's.

Marcus Guiliano of Aroma Thyme Bistro, in Ellenville, NY called me the other day to come in and try this new beer.

Raging Bitch pours a clear, amber color with a thumb width, off white head. The aroma is amazing, with a citrus and pine hop aroma. The body is smooth, hoppy throughout, with pale malt in the middle and grassy notes. The finish leaves a very nice lingering dryness. The beer leaves a decent amount of hanging lace on the glass. Overall, this is just a flat out great beer. It is an A+ beer from the nose to the finish. Well-balanced, gret flavor and really memorable.

Flying Dog Dogtoberfest

Flying Dog's Dogtoberfest is the 2009 Great American Beer Festival's gold medal winner for the German Style Märzen category, beating out 44 other entries.

The beer poured a clear, dark amber color with a thumb width, off white head. The aroma is yeasty, with notes of sweetness and pale malt. The body is smooth and bready, with hops underneath and a sweetness that stays throughtout the entire beer. The finish has a light dryness that works well with the rest of the body.

Overall, this is a pretty enjoyable beer. The marzen style can be a little one demensional with its bready sweetness but Flying Dog's verson is really well balanced.

Flying Dog Tire Bite

Tire Bite is Flying Dog's take on the Golden Ale style. It pours a clear, golden color with a small, white, bubbly head. The nose offers up a healthy amount of yeast and a slight amount of malt. The body is light with a crisp mouthfeel. It is balanced and smooth with some hints of corn, malt, and slight sweetness. The finish is mild and uneventful. At a modest 5.0% this lighter style from the notoriously intense brewer is meant for the warm summer months, but is not all that great and a bit of a disapointment as I have come to expect better from this brewer.

Flying Dog Wild Dog Collaborator Doppelbock

Collaborator Doppelbock is Flying Dog's latest beer in the Wild Dog series. Wild Dog is a series from Flying Dog that has consisted of their Double IPA in 2004, a Weizenbock in 2005, a Colorado Saison in 2006 and now the Doppelbock. The Doppelbock is unique in the fact that the beer was created through Flying Dog's Open Source Beer Project. Flying Dog combined feedback from the site and used it to create the recipe for this beer.
The beer poured a dark amber color with a thick, off-white foamy head. The nose was malty with a smokey note. The first palate consisted of malts and sweetness and progressed into a slightly dry finish in which the hops become apparent. The middle palate has a very smooth set of continuous malts and sugars. It is an enjoyable beer that is well balanced and extremely well made. Hats off to Flying Dog for this one.

Flying Dog Gonzo Imperial Porter

Flying Dog is at it again with their new porter. The Gonzo is a big beer and the ABV of 7.8% proves it. The beer poured a thin, brown head with a earthy, very malty nose. The first sip tells us alot with hints of caramel, chocolate, toffee, burnt sugar and grains. The middle has a sweet, creamy center and is big on the palate. Gonzo has a great, velvet mouthfeel with a lot going on. It is big on the palate. The beer has a very nice long, dry finish. Overall, this beer is a big porter and extremely enjoyable to sip on.
